the filters Unveiled at the Tate Britain

Published: 24th March 2015

Tate Britain the Filters

Nowadays, when most people hear the word ‘filters’, Instagram and selfies come to mind, but this new exhibition may change all that. the filters (no capital letters) is a three part installation by Christina Mackie. It has been created for the annual Tate Britain Commission.

The installation was unveiled yesterday and will go on show to the public tomorrow in the Tate Britain Duveen Galleries adding a great deal of colour to the stone room.

Tapering silk nets, 12 metres long, are suspended from hoops hanging from the ceiling. The installation has been described as ethereal and as if it was made in space. Throughout the day the colours will change by the light in the room.

The Tate Britain is in Pimlico over looking the Thames and, is the older of the two Tate galleries in London. It is the home of British art from 1500 to present day so when you visit to see the filters why not also check out their collection of pre-Raphaelite paintings or some of their Tudor paintings?

The gallery, like the Tate Modern is family friendly and kids can take part in the FREE Open Studio when they visit at weekends.

Christina Mackie’s installation will be in the gallery until 18th October.
