London Zoo is taking its annual stock take where it counts all the animals in the zoo. With over 750 different species at the zoo, the animal count takes a whole week to complete.
It’s probably a little more of an arduous task than Noah’s Ark. There are not just two of every animal, that is for sure. Last year the animal inventory counted a total of 16,869 individual animals at London Zoo with a further 2811 at Whipsnade.
In 2014 the Zoo welcomed quite a few new animals including 3 Sumatran tiger cubs. The stock take has now confirmed that London Zoo is now home to 5 of the tigers. There are also 5 llamas and one alpaca and 70 Humboldt penguins.
The count will be finished by the end of the week, making it the perfect time to give the zoo a visit to make sure the zookeepers have counted right! And before you go watch our reviews of London Zoo and Tiger Territory.
