Tate Modern was celebrating last night after scooping THREE gongs as Leading Culture Destinations announced the winners of its inaugural annual awards.
London was named as Best City for Culture, and the art gallery walked off with Leading Culture Destination 2014, and for Exhibitions & Programming, and Digital Experience.
They are the first and only international awards to celebrate the best not-for-profit visual arts institutions around the world.
Mayor of London, Boris Johnson was quick to praise the capital for its selection as the Best City for Culture: ‘London is home to some of the best museums and galleries in the world, with an unrivalled range of top-notch art, photography and installations that attract millions of visitors from around the globe.
Cultural institutions in cities as far and wide as Paris, New York, Miami, Shanghai, Oslo, Berlin and Mexico City, were among those competing to win nine awards at the event, held at Jumeirah Carlton Tower, London.
