Fancy trying out a new sport? Why not head over to Wormwood Scrubs where the Hammersmith BMX track has recently opened. BMX is one of the fastest growing sports in the UK, especially following the London 2012 Olympics. The ride may be bumpy but it sure is fun.
There are now 12 BMX clubs all over London including the Lee Valley Velopark, so if Wormwood Scrubs is far away for you should be able to find another club closer to home: click here to find your nearest track.
Your first club session is free and subsequent sessions are £2 with a membership or £3 without. All ages and abilities are welcome, though make sure you do know how to ride a bike. Check the Facebook page or website for additional events at the track. Club sessions are great for making new friends and really honing your skills. In a few years you could be an Olympian like Shanaze Reade!
If you love cycling but BMX isn’t for you, there are plenty of other ways to get involved with the sport in London. Cycle-friendly parks like Richmond Park and London’s two velodromes may be good places to start.
