Father’s Day

There’s a Father’s Day card on my desk. Nice and early for the special day in a few weeks, you might think. But you would be mistaken. It’s been on my desk for three years, as I just keep on forgetting to write it and give it to my dad on that particular Sunday in June. To be honest, I don’t even think he’s noticed the absence of a card, or present for the past three years.

I promise you, I’m not a terrible daughter, it’s just that Father’s Day is tricky. Mother’s Day’s a walk in the park in comparison. A bunch of flowers and breakfast in bed and everyone’s happy, but flowers on Father’s Day seems weird.

A quick survey of the KidRated HQ suggests that I’m not alone. Most confessed to not getting their dads anything for Father’s Day, and feeling very little remorse. Simon, our CEO, and the only dad in the office, once asked his own dad whether he was disappointed in him for his lack of Father’s Day presents. His father replied, there were many more important reasons to be disappointed in him. Classic dad humour.

I asked my dad what he would like for fathers day. “Slippers and a pipe,” he answered, before commenting how horrible pipes are. So that present idea is out. Slippers, maybe, but I think he got a pair for Christmas.

Joking aside, dads deserve celebrating. A fail safe way to treat your dad is to just promise to spend the day with him doing something you both love (if you both love visiting attractions in London we might be able to help).

One last thing you can do for Father’s Day, or any day of the year for that matter, is just tell your dad you love him and that he’s doing a good job.

But, if you do want to go the extra mile, and get your dad something he’ll treasure forever (and something that will really show up your siblings), we have the solution, the Book of Dad : a personalised book to really tell your dad just how much you love him.  Even better, our friends at the Book of Everyone have given us a special 20% discount for the book. All you need to do is use the promo code KIDRATED when you buy your book online. This will be valid right up until Father’s Day itself. Delivery takes around 2 or 3 days, so we’d recommend getting your orders placed as soon as possible.
