National Museum of Computing

KidRated’s National Museum of Computing Top Tips:

The National Museum of Computing is located in Bletchley Park, but operates as a separate entity. At TNMOC you can learn all about the history of computers.

Inside you will find the largest collection of working computers in the World, including an entirely rebuilt Colossus, the massive World War 2 code breaking computer which features 2,500 values – a far cry form your iPhone 6, that is for sure.

Kids can also play games from the 1980s in the PC room. Other interactive rooms include the 1980s computer classroom. You can even learn how the internet really works!

During school holidays, TNMOC hosts the Bytes Festival which is full of great things to do with kids, such as building LEGO robots and meeting a 1950s metal robot called George.

Have a free introduction to coding on weekends and during Bytes Festivals!

Guided tours of the museum are also available. These 2-hour tours take place at 2pm on Tuedays and 10.30am on Thursdays, and booking online in advance is recommended.

Summer Bytes 2016

30th July to 28th August, every afternoon, 12 noon to 5pm

Included in the price of your museum entrance. Kids can enjoy fun activities such as meeting Star Wars droid R2D2, taking part in a coding challenge or creating their own video game. Check the website for more details.
