Sitting by the Serpentine Lake in the Royal Park of Kensington Gardens, the Serpentine Gallery is housed in a former tea pavilion and has displayed contemporary artists such as Bridget Riley and Henry Moore in its time. Outside are a whole series of sculptures which are great to walk around, guessing what they look like.
Each summer an architect designs a temporary pavilion to sit alongside the Gallery, including interactive areas for kids and adults. And of course insta-worthy photo opportunities! See the website for more information.
There are a range of art exhibitions hosted by the Serpentine Gallery, as well as performances and films which take place frequently. There are a few family days each year which are extremely popular and give you and your kids the chance to meet artists and learn more about the gallery and the creation of art itself.
Whilst you’re visiting, be sure to also check out the Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fountain, located in the perfect spot for a picnic if you’re visiting on a sunny day! Just don’t fall in!

I went to the Serpentine with my family last year and had a pretty good time. There some really interesting pieces to see and I liked that it was in Hyde Park so afterwards we had a picnic and hangout on the grass. Some of the things we saw were a little bit young for me and I feel like more of an art lover would really appreciate the gallery. It’s a good spot if you’re looking for something free to do in London though.
