We created the blog series #KidRatedMeets to learn more about some of our favourite mummy bloggers on the internet. Today we meet, Sabina Green, who is also known as Mummy Matters.
I started setting up the blog in September 2009 on a WordPress hosted site, the intention was to start the blog with a big announcement that we were pregnant with our second child. Before I had the chance to make the announcement I miscarried so my first post was not a happy one. I carried on blogging and talking about life as a stay at home Mum to my daughter, our adventures with friends and the rather stressful journey of weaning my extremely fussy eater.
Over time our family grew to welcome a further two boys and the blog grew into a successful review blog as well as a family diary. Blogging has become a way of life for our family, it has provided us opportunities we could never have envisaged without it and the Beans are already talking about ‘when they start blogging’.
The main theme of my life and my blog is that family comes first. As a child it was all that I ever dreamed of and now I’m living my dream. Parenting isn’t always easy, but hey, easy would be boring right?! We pretty much do everything together and are a close unit. For a time I felt that Mummy Matters lost it’s way a little with too many reviews and not enough family but slowly I am trying to redress the balance.
Mondays and Fridays, Jelly Bean my youngest is at home so after dropping the bigger Beans to school we come home and have a drink and a snack.
Sometimes we meet up with family or friends for a playdate, others we stay home to do baking, play with train, Happy Land or just crack open the paints and make a mess. Tuesday to Thursday Jelly Bean goes to preschool so I start my ‘me time’ with a run, followed by breakfast and then it’s all work, work, work until it’s time to pick them all up and let the chaos begin.
Sometimes it’s playdates or a walk/scoot, crafting, a movie afternoon, homework or a trip to the park. We are ALWAYS busy doing something, we aren’t the sort of family who just ‘sit’. After tea-time, the most stressful part of the day, it’s time for reading (them to us and us to them) before sleep for them and back to working downstairs for me whilst Hubby cooks our tea. We’re not so rock’n’roll but we are happy.
Trust your instincts, don’t be afraid to ask for help and always be true to yourself. Above anything else, enjoy it – if you’re not enjoying it then it’s not worth doing and it will show in your writing.
Parenting! Our journey has been quite stressful with a fussy-eater who turned out to have selective eating disorder and our youngest has had issues with refusal to poop, finally after a summer nailing potty training I think we are coming out the other side at last.
Breastfeeding – I breastfed all three of my children and had a completely different journey with each one but all extremely precious and I love to help others to achieve their breastfeeding goals too.
My biggest plans afoot are a blog makeover, a friend told me that in real life I am a funny and approachable person but they don’t get that feeling when they look at my blog so I think it’s time I made a few changes!
Bewilderwood in Norfolk, camping anywhere, scooting at Burghley House in Stamford, exploring London, the beach!
No visit to London with my lot is complete without a trip to Disney Store or Hamley’s. We LOVE London Zoo and have had lots of fun at the Olympic Park. I’m hoping to take them to the theatre in the next year because it’s something that my husband and I truly love. Most times that we have visited London have been in relation to blog events so we have done all manner of exciting things, it’s one of the things we love about being a blogging family.
The Tower of London, London Zoo and the London Eye have all been experiences the Beans have loved to do and have asked to go back to.
