The best family days out in London and beyond rated by kids and teens

I’m Fiamma and my family and I live in London. My son Michael is autistic and 11 years old. These are some of the activities we do with him:
Michael’s biggest passion is trains, so once a week, his dad takes him to Kings Cross. This is the equivalent of a weekly trip to Disney World for him. He goes on the platform and loves to see all the preparations for the train. He loves closing the train doors. Sometimes the conductor lets him go inside his cabin and sit in his chair. We have to put a time limit on the visit to the train station and we let him know in advance, otherwise he will refuse to leave.

Again, somebody who loves trains will love this museum. Michael also loves climbing onto the buses at the exhibition. At £17 for adults, it’s not exactly cheap, but the plus side is that once you buy a ticket you can return as many times as you want for a whole year. And Michael loves going back.

The Didcot Railway Centre is far away near Oxford, but this place is such a special treat for Michael so we take him up there once a month. Here he enjoys riding the steam trains that he doesn’t get to see at Kings Cross.
Michael loves ice skating and goes every Saturday morning to Alexandra Palace for a spin around the rink. At the beginning, we would have to hire supports online before going out there for £5 so he could go on the ice without falling, but now he is a confident skater and can go quite fast.

Michael loves going to the cinema but to see animated films that have a lot of movement and little dialogue. For example, he loves film that have car chases and slapstick humour like characters bumping into things.
