The Royal Opera House is home to two of the world’s most famous artistic companies: The Royal Opera and The Royal Ballet. It has an amazing in-house orchestra and is open to the public during the day. There’s so much for kids to see and do at this beautiful venue, including children’s operas, family fun days, activities and games, such as trying on costumes and combat demonstrations.

Backstage tours offer a great introduction to the history of opera and the theatre, looking at aspects of current productions, an insight into how the theatre has changed, and even viewings of Royal Ballet rehearsals.
The ROH holds exhibitions celebrating the world-class artists, technicians and craftspeople who work there and special events and workshops to give kids an opportunity to learn about opera in an exciting way.
Accessibility is a high priority, with 19 wheelchair spaces in the main auditorium, that can be made available for every performance, plus a waiter service for wheelchair users, accessible toilets, and lift access. For some productions there are sign-language-interpreted performances.

The behind the scenes tour was amazing! See how the stage works and how BIG it all is. And watch the dancers rehearsing, see them making the fantastic costumes…. Really, badger your parents until they take you. (From a 43yr old big kid!) I could have stayed watching the rehearsals for hours…..
