Railway Children at King’s Cross

KidRated’s Railway Children Top Tips:

  • Bring tissues for the emotional ending
  • Do not try Bobbie’s unconventional method of stopping trains
  • Learn more about Edwardian trains at the London Transport Museum

This adaptation of E. Nesbit’s classic novel The Railway Children at LONDON’S KING’S CROSS THEATRE is the perfect treat for all the family.

Set in a purpose built 1,000 seat venue, this breath-taking show features a stage built around a real train track, a beautiful 60-tonne locomotive that steams into the theatre!

Don’t miss your chance to join Bobbie, Peter and Phyllis on the adventure of a lifetime as they tell the story of how they became The Railway Children.

Shaun Williamson has joined the cast as Mr Perks, as the show celebrates its first anniversary at King’s Cross Theatre in London.

Parents, if you loved the 1970 film starring Jenny Agutter when you were young,  this is a perfect way to give a classic a new lease of life and engage the kids in a part of your childhood. Like the recent Paddington movie, it will be almost impossible to leave the theatre without a slight feeling of nostalgia.

If somehow the story has passed you by, the play is about the siblings Bobbie, Phyllis and Peter who move to a house near a railway track when their father is accused of spying. Living by the railway enables the three children to have many adventures and meet plenty of interesting people.

£1 from every ticket goes to the Railway Children Charity which aims to stop abuse of children who live alone or on the streets worldwide.

Parent Point of View

About London Laura Porter

Laura Porter

  • The theatre is totally unique as the audience sit on two ‘train platforms’ and the stage moves in the middle so everyone gets a good view.
  • I’d recommend seats in the back row as younger kids can then stand up to watch without blocking anyone’s view.
  • This is a wonderful play and you will shed a tear at the end.

I was a big fan of the film when I was younger and so taking my kids to see this was a real joy! My 8 year old was so impressed by the real train.

Unfortunately we were very underwhelmed with this show. My kids are aged 11 and seven, and found it difficult to remain interested in watching it.
