Saatchi Gallery

KidRated’s Saatchi Gallery Top Tips:

  • Don’t forget to visit the quirky gift shop.
  • Some exhibitions may not be so child-friendly – check before you go.
  • Peruse the King’s Road after your visit – full of restaurants, shops and dogs in handbags.

Situated at the Sloane Square end of the King’s Road, the Saatchi Gallery is full of modern art exhibitions. Many of the artists featured are unknowns. Just think, as you wander around, you may be looking at art by the next big thing of the art world. This innovative element also makes it a great gallery to go to with kids. The exhibitions tend to be more interactive and less stuffy than some of the big galleries in London.

The gallery’s aim is to bring art to as many people as possible and so kids are truly welcomed.

There is a cafe, called Gallery Mess, which might not have the most kid-friendly food but does serve afternoon tea. The King’s Road is full of family-friendly restaurants though so you definitely won’t go hungry. Why not try Gelateria Valerie, also in Duke of York Square for some great ice cream. A great reward after a day of being culture vultures.

Booking Advice:

  • Entrance is completely FREE!

Honor

My first time visiting and I really enjoyed it. It had a really nice vibe with some interesting art. I brought a friend with me who’s quite into art and we spent an afternoon browsing and pretending we knew what we were talking about. We visited the cafe afterwards and had a nice coffee to end our afternoon. I really liked this gallery and especially the gift shop – who doesn’t love a gift shop?!

  • This is a classic ‘big white rooms with random modern art’ type of gallery.
  • The exhibits aren’t roped off so ensure kids don’t touch.
  • The children’s afternoon tea at Gallery Mess is a great price.
